After some unexpected delays, the band is very happy to report that 11 of the new album’s 14 tracks are now fully mixed. It’s also a great pleasure to announce that the new album will, once again, feature cover art by the very talented Michael Phipps. Additionally, the group has already reengaged Bob Katz to provide his state-of-the-art mastering services for the 77-minute release. If all goes as planned, the new CD is expected to be out in July. Further updates to come shortly.
We’re very happy to report that recording for the third Advent album is now about 90% complete, along with a good part of the mixing as well. If all goes as planned from this point forward, we expect to have the CD released by (or near) the end of the year. Please stay tuned!
Welcome to the official website of the progressive-rock band Advent
Formed in 1989, Advent began as a collaboration between Alan Benjamin and Henry Ptak, with Henry’s brother Mark joining very shortly thereafter. Leveraging diverse-yet-harmonious backgrounds and a common desire to create music that would, first and foremost, satisfy the members’ own progressive and somewhat eclectic musical desires, the band released its critically acclaimed (self-titled) debut CD on Mellow Records in 1997 and also contributed several pieces to both Gentle Giant and Procol Harum tribute-album projects around the same time. The group released its long-awaited follow-up album, Cantus Firmus, in 2006— to numerous rave reviews—and has since been developing a growing reputation as one of today’s most impressive live progressive-rock acts. Work is also well underway on a third Advent album, with a targeted release in late 2014.
Advent to hit the NJ Proghouse stage once again
After spending the better part of the year locked in the studio (writing, arranging, and recording material for the band’s third CD), Advent is very pleased to be hitting the stage at the NJ Proghouse once again on Sunday, December 11th. The Tea Club, south Jersey’s hottest up-and-coming progressive-rock act, will be joining us for this very special gig. Very much hope to see you there!
A very special show featuring two of New Jersey’s top progressive-rock bands Advent & The Tea Club.
Perhaps a modern equivalent to the symphonic side of classic English progressive-rock groups like Gentle Giant, (early) Genesis, and Procol Harum, but with a little Tubes-style funk and the occasional jazz-rock flourish as well, Advent seeks to blend true classical-quality composition with the excitement and dynamics of rock music.
About The Tea Club:
The Tea Club is an independent rock band from New Jersey known for writing songs of an epic nature, comparitive to the early progressive rock bands of the 1960’s and 70’s. They also incorporate elements of post-rock, alternative rock, and space rock. A major part of the band’s signature sound are the dual vocals and harmonies of Patrick and Dan McGowan, as well as their usage of unique guitar chords and chord patterns, often times played in alternate tunings.
