Drew’s fascination with the drums began around age 10 with the question: “Why does ‘Papa’s got a Brand New Bag’ make you want to walk like a chicken?” Growing up in North Babylon, NY, Drew spent his teenage years playing in rock bands in friends’ basements and garages. Turning professional at age 20, he was part of the Long Island club scene (when there was one) for about 14 years working with various rock, jazz, R&B, pop, and show bands.
After moving to New Jersey, Drew had the opportunity to work with some wonderful musicians including keyboardist Len Mooney and guitarist Kevin Siebold. He went on to spend three years playing and recording with Len and Kevin as a member of the jazz/jam-band trio Roamin’ Gabriels. His playing can be heard on their debut release Smile.
Along the way, Drew studied with some great drummers including Bernard Purdie, Jim Chapin, jazz great Bill Goodwin, and classical percussionist Gil Brienes. His musical influences range from The Young Rascals to Keith Jarrett. His love of jazz frequently brings him to the Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA, to sit in at the Thursday night jazz jam. He’s been a fixture there for over 20 years.
Drew first heard Advent’s music in 2006 through a link from a musician’s classified website. “I’d never heard anything quite like it. The music was so interesting and creative, with an amazing attention to detail, almost like a world unto itself.” He spent four years with Advent’s first live ensemble and contributed to the Cantus Firmus release. Drew rejoined Advent in 2024. “I’m so glad to be playing with these gents again and for the opportunity to work on this great new music.”
